Exclusive Interview with a Young Indian Entrepreneur: Turning Passion into a Purpose

Introduction: A Glimpse into India’s New-Age Entrepreneurship

India’s startup ecosystem is booming, driven by a wave of young, innovative minds with a hunger to solve real-world problems. In this exclusive interview, we spotlight one such young Indian entrepreneur whose journey from a small college dorm to becoming a recognized founder is nothing short of inspirational.

This real-life story serves as a guiding light for aspiring entrepreneurs, college students, and early-stage startup enthusiasts. Let’s dive into the journey of Aarav Mehta, a 24-year-old founder who transformed his simple idea into a thriving startup with national recognition.

Meet the Entrepreneur: Aarav Mehta, Founder of SkillBharat

At just 24, Aarav Mehta, a Computer Science graduate from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is the founder and CEO of SkillBharat, a startup that empowers rural youth with digital skill training and job placement support.

What started as a college project to teach basic computer skills in his village evolved into a full-fledged platform impacting over 25,000 students across India.

The Spark: How a College Project Ignited a Startup Dream

Humble Beginnings in a Small Town

Aarav grew up in a small village in Gujarat where digital literacy was almost nonexistent. “I saw a huge gap between opportunities available in urban versus rural areas,” he recalls.

During his second year in college, he initiated a weekend program teaching Microsoft Office and basic internet usage to local school kids. That initiative laid the foundation for what would later become SkillBharat.

Identifying the Problem

“India has brilliant youth in its rural belt, but no one is bridging the digital divide effectively,” says Aarav.

The realization that thousands of youth were being left behind due to lack of digital awareness became Aarav’s mission.

From Idea to Execution: Building SkillBharat

The Turning Point

In 2021, Aarav pitched his idea at a university startup competition and won first place. The prize included incubation support and seed funding worth ₹5 lakhs. This marked the beginning of SkillBharat as a startup.

What is SkillBharat?

SkillBharat is an edtech platform offering:

  • Online and offline training in digital literacy, freelancing, and soft skills
  • Live mentorship sessions with industry experts
  • Job placement partnerships with MSMEs and startups
  • Multilingual courses tailored for rural students

Challenges Faced by a Young Indian Entrepreneur

No entrepreneurial journey is smooth, especially when you’re young and building something unconventional.

Top Challenges Aarav Faced:

  1. Funding Hurdles: “Convincing investors to bet on a rural model was tough initially.”
  2. Team Building: Attracting skilled team members to join a village-based startup required a lot of vision sharing.
  3. Tech Constraints: Low internet connectivity in remote areas required Aarav to innovate offline-compatible course modules.

Lessons from the Journey: Aarav’s Advice to Aspiring Entrepreneurs

“Age is not a barrier; mindset is. Start with what you have, where you are.”

Aarav shares 5 golden rules every young entrepreneur should keep in mind:

  • Start small, but think big
  • Validate your idea early
  • Focus on real-world impact
  • Build a team that shares your vision
  • Don’t fear failure—iterate fast

Milestones and Recognition

In just two years, SkillBharat has achieved the following:

  • Trained over 25,000+ youth across 6 Indian states
  • Partnered with 20+ colleges and NGOs
  • Recognized by Startup India and Microsoft for Startups
  • Aarav featured in Forbes India 30 Under 30 – 2024 Watchlist

The Future Vision: Expanding Beyond Borders

SkillBharat aims to reach 1 million learners by 2027 and expand its curriculum to include AI, blockchain, and climate-tech skills.

“We want to be the go-to platform for digital upskilling in Tier-2, Tier-3, and rural India,” Aarav affirms.

Why This Story Matters: Inspiring India’s Next-Gen Founders

Aarav’s story isn’t just about launching a successful startup. It’s about creating impact-driven innovation, proving that even a college student with limited resources can change lives.

His journey is a blueprint for:

  • College students dreaming of launching startups
  • Investors scouting for raw and rising talent
  • Mentors and incubators seeking promising change-makers
  • Youth across India looking for role models they can relate to

Conclusion: A Call to the Dreamers

If Aarav’s story teaches us anything, it’s that entrepreneurship is not about age, location, or money—it’s about passion, persistence, and purpose. India needs more Aaravs. And maybe the next one could be you.
